Don Gorge Strategic Partnership

DGSP’s Mission statement:
"To manage the Don Gorge holistically through a multi-agency approach for the sustainable management of its ecological, social and intrinsic values."

The Don Gorge Strategic Partnership (DGSP) is made up of representatives from Doncaster Metropolitan Borough Council (DMBC), British Waterways, the Environment Agency, Lafarge Aggregates, Natural England, Yorkshire Wildlife Trust and the Don Gorge Community Group. It is chaired by DMBC's Deputy Mayor.

The Management Plan:

The plan sets out aims and objectives to be carried out over 10 years, and covers:-
Visitor management, Access and Recreation; Areas of Geological, Archeological and Heritage Interest, Management of the river and Banks, and Species and Habitat management.

Site update -September 2008

Alan Peace is the archaeologist responsible for many of the finds documented on this website. Our Ancient Don Gorge page has now been updated with a link to an article Alan has written about his experiences.

Discovering the Ancient Don Gorge Travelling Exhibition

The travelling exhibition is currently on tour in the Don Gorge, calling at local libraries. The exhibition tells the fascinating story of the Don Gorge, taking you through 85,000 years of human history from the Palaeolithic to the Anglo-Saxon period. Accompanying the graphic display are real archaeological treasures from the Don Gorge’s early prehistoric periods.
